"Soaring to new heights with global recognition as The UPPside European Restaurant, Clare Valley has been awarded the snail of approval from the Slow Food Movement governing body.

The Snail of Approval is an internationally recognised program aimed at inspiring producers, chefs, businesses and growers, to advocate for and promote "Good, Clean and Fair food" for all.

The Slow Food movement began in Italy, 1986 and since spread globally encouraging business owners/chefs like Christian and Caity Uppill of The UPPside.

Christian and Caity initially become members in 2017 when they owned their first restaurant, Il Toro pasta and espresso bar. This is when Chef Christian decided to utilised his parents family home/farm with the assistance of "mum and dad" to grow fresh produce for their restaurant.

Just after the initial woes of COVID, at the end of 2021 saw Christian and Caity move back to the Clare Valley countryside and open their second restaurant, The UPPside European Restaurant and Wine Bar in Penwortham, a Euro inspired restaurant with the fusion of classic country Australian charm. Since it's inception they have expanded on their fresh produce growing and now also have a strong focus on sustainability and eco-friendly practices including raw and cooked food composting, worm farming, soil management, use of enviro-cycle systems to recycle grey water, use of solar energy, use of ethical and sustainable producers/suppliers and much more.

This is a true testament to their dedication in promoting good, clean and fair food in the heart of the Clare Valley."
